Dia, M.; Ghorbel, M.; Kone, Y.; Bouaîn, A..

Ould Yarba, L.; Ghorbel, M.; Bouain, A..
The red Pandora Pagellus bellottii is one of the most important demersal species in the fisheries of Mauritanian coasts. Several gears and fleet traditionally exploit it. The studies concerning this fish and particularly those of its age and growth are rare and haven't used the adequate method, which uses hard pieces like scale and vertebra. The objective of the present work is to contribute to the knowledge of the growth parameters of the red Pandora using the scales method not yet used in the studied area. To determine the age and to study the growth of Pagellus bellottii in Mauritanian coasts, we have used the scales of 544 individuals. We have taken, 8 scales under the fin pectoral and we have read the age using a binocular magnifying glass provided...

Fezzani Serbaji, S.; Chemmam-A, B.; Ben Salem, M..

Age, growth and mortality of Sciaena umbra (Sciaenidae) in the Gulf of Tunis ArchiMer
Chater, Ines; Romdhani-dhahri, Ahlem; Dufour, Jean-louis; Mahe, Kelig; Chakroun-marzouk, Nadia.
The growth and mortality of the brown meagre, Sciaena umbra from the Gulf of Tunis, were investigated using a sample of 276 specimens, ranging from 15.3 to 49.2 cm total length and from 43 to 1565 g total weight. Specimens were collected from artisanal fisheries between October 2008 and September 2011. Otoliths were extracted, thin cross-sections were realized and radii were measured. The log-linear morphometric relationships between total length-total weight and total length-otolith radius were significant (p < 0.05), showed positive allometry (b=3.15) and isometry (b=0.90), respectively. The marginal analysis suggested that only one growth increment was deposited per year. The maximum age of the brown meagre was 22 years for males and 31 years for...

Age, growth and mortality of the starry weever Trachinus radiatus Cuvier, 1829 in the Tunisian waters ArchiMer
Hamed, Oussama; Dufour, Jean-louis; Chakroun-marzouk, Nadia; Mahe, Kelig.
Age, growth and mortality of the Starry weever Trachinus radiatus were studied for the first time from 214 individuals collected in the Gulf of Tunis between February 2014 and January 2016. The significant relationship between length-weight was observed for males (a = 0.011, b = 2.992, R2 = 0.981, n = 77) and females (a = 0.010, b = 3.036, R² =0.957, n = 109). Age was estimated by the observation of otoliths transverse thin sections. Age of individuals ranged from 1 to 15 years. The precision was measured by two age estimations from two experts and indicated a good agreement between them (PA = 85.6%, CV = 3.8% and IAPE = 4.1%). The growth parameters of the von Bertalanffy model were TL∞ = 38.41 cm, W∞ = 507.47 g, K = 0.3396 year-1, t0 = 0 year for males...

Age, growth and mortality of the striped seabream Lithognathus mormyrus (Linnaeus, 1758) in the Gulf of Tunis (Central Mediterranean Sea) ArchiMer
Khaldi, Asma; Chater, Ines; Elleboode, Romain; Mahé, Kelig; Chakroun-marzouk, Nadia.
Despite the high commercial value of the striped seabream Lithognathus mormyrus (Linnaeus, 1758) in the Gulf of Tunis, biological data on its age, growth and exploitation rate are lacking. With the aim of estimating growth parameters, 516 individuals, ranging from 6–27.5 cm total length and from 3.5–293.5 g total weight, were collected from the artisanal fishing fleet between February 2014 and July 2016. The somatic growth presented a positive allometry and was described by the equation TW = 6.54 10−3TL3.213. The monthly analysis of the marginal increment of the otoliths revealed that only one annulus was deposited per year. The estimated von Bertalanffy growth parameters were: L∞ = 30.18 cm, k = 0.303 year−1 and t0 = −1.42 years. Total and natural...

Agricultural Credit Interest Rate Equalization Policy: A Growth Subsidy? AgEcon
Castro, Eduardo Rodrigues de; Teixeira, Erly Cardoso.
The Brazilian Interest Rate Equalization System (IRES) subsidizes farmers by providing them with credit at lower than market interest rates. The objective of this research is to evaluate the IRES by comparing its monetary cost with its benefits as measured by Brazilian GDP growth. Estimates are carried out using input-output matrix. The results suggest that each Brazilian real spent by IRES to assist Brazilian family farms increases Brazilian GDP by R$ 1.75 and that each real spent to assist commercial farms increases GDP by R$ 3.57. The IRES is a subsidy that generates economic growth greater than its cost to society.

Agricultural Trade Liberalisation and Economic Growth in Developing Countries: Analysis of Distributional Consequences AgEcon
Ali, Ershad; Talukder, Dayal.
The article analyses the impact of agricultural trade liberalisation on economic growth as well as on the welfare of rural livelihoods in developing countries through technological transformation in the agricultural sector. The article, based on existing literature, considers the background and reasons for the policy shift in developing economies away from agricultural protection and toward trade liberalisation. It attempts to shed light on the debate over the distributional consequences resulting from trade liberalisation. It also analyses how agricultural trade policy reforms affect poverty and inequality, since the majority of the population of developing countries is involved with agriculture, and these households are predominantly rural poor and...

Introduction: This document is the End of Second Year internship report for Rennes University 1's Senior Math and Computer Science Modelisation Professional diploma. This two month internship was completed at the Brest IFREMER center at the Coastal Ecology department. IFREMER participates, in the course of its institutional missions, in observation and coastal sea surveillance, in order to improve on the knowledge, protection methods and restoration of the marine environment. Marine phytoplankton proliferation is an important study subject because of its potential cause for nuisance, for men, consumers of sea products as well as for the ecosystem. During Spring and Summer, shellfish become invariably unsuitable for consumption due to toxins produced by...

OceanDocs
Hansen, J.E.; Madirolas, A..
Information resulting from four spring acoustic surveys carried out between 1993 - 1996 to assess bonaerensis anchovy (Engraulis anchoita) biomass (34°- 41°30´S) is presented. Annual estimates, successively higher, went from 1.5 to 5.3 millon tons and the respective coefficient of variability that followed the same trend ranged between 7.4. and 28.0. . In general terms, the largest abundances were those recorded within the coastal strata off the Río de la Plata followed by those of the most southern stratum. Nevertheless, during the 1996 survey, the latter showed very high biomass values and, consequently, the largest mean. The region corresponding to the main commercial anchovy fishing ground during the season represented, in any case, relatively low...

Riva, A.; Lelong, P..
The lagoon of Brusc located on the Mediterranean coast (VarFrance) is subjected to climatic and hydrologic particular conditions. The low values observed for nutrient into the sea water affect the evolution of phytoplankton. Thus chlorophyll concentration measured in the lagoon give an annual average of 0.42 mg. m-3 . The growth of two bivalves species : Cerastoderma glaucum and Venerupis semidecussata was compared between two stations where one population of each species are implanted. The culture of this molluscs is made in the lagoon and in outdoor pound dug on the old salt-pan near at hand. In the pound, subjected to natural climatic conditions, a great growth is noted for this two species. The growth rate appear better than the populations of the...

Allelopathic potential of bark and leaves of Esenbeckia leiocarpa Engl. (Rutaceae) Acta Botanica
Souza,Flaviana Maluf; Gandolfi,Sergius; Perez,Sonia Cristina Juliano Gualtieri de Andrade; Rodrigues,Ricardo Ribeiro.
We investigated the inhibitory potential of aqueous extracts of bark and leaves of Esenbeckia leiocarpa Engl. on lettuce germination and early seedling growth. We compared the effects of four concentrations (100, 75, 50 and 25%) of each extract to water and polyethylene glycol (PEG 6000) solution controls for four replicates of 50 seeds for germination and four replicates of ten seedlings for seedling growth. The inhibitory effects of E. leiocarpa extracts on the percentage of germination and on the germination speed seemed to be more than simply an osmotic effect, except for the percentage of seeds germinated in bark extracts. When compared to water control, both bark and leaf extracts delayed germination, and leaf extracts also affected the percentage of...
